Jan De Nul is the newest member of Beluxcham in 2018
Beluxcham sent the warmest welcome to Jan De Nul Group – our newest member in 2018. Jan De Nul Group is a family-owned company, with the financial headquarters in Luxembourg, that provides services relating to the construction and maintenance of maritime infrastructure on an international basis.
Its main focus is dredging (including other forms of marine engineering), which accounts for 85% of its turnover. Other areas include civil engineering and environmental technology. Shaping water and land. From complex offshore services for both fossil and renewable energy sectors, over large dredging and reclamation project at the edge of water and land to all possible civil and environmental works onshore.
Founded in 1938, in Hofstade near Aalst, Belgium, Jan De Nul started as a construction company specialised in civil works and maritime construction. It was only in 1951 that the company entered into the dredging business.
At the end of 2012, Jan De Nul had 6000 employees and a yearly turnover of 2 billion euro. Other major dredging companies are Dutch companies Royal Boskalis Westminster and Van Oord, and the Belgian DEME.
Jan De Nul was voted the most attractive employer in Belgium in 2008 and 2009. They kicked off a new project in Vung Tau, Vietnam at the beginning of this year.
Thanks to the continuous investment in people and own equipment, in combination with the intense cooperation between the different departments, Jan De Nul Group studies and executes complex multidisciplinary projects from A to Z. A total package, time after time, and in a sustainable way.
Promoting education cooperation between Vietnam and Kingdom of Belgium
Prof, Dr. Phung Xuan Nha, Minister of Education and Training had a meeting with Mr. Paul Jansen – Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam about the cooperation in education field of two countries in the future on 13th December 2018 in Hanoi.
Minister Nha congratulated Mr. Paul Jansen on his new term in Vietnam and hoped that Vietnam – Kingdom of Belgium relations will continue to develop and especially in education field.
Over the past few years, two countries have had good relationship and cooperation in developing the field of education and training. During 2015-2019, Belgium government has financed the Facility of Capacity Building (FCB) project to strengthen professional and managerial skills for Vietnamese organizations and individuals through short & long term training courses in Belgium and short courses in Vietnam.
100 Vietnamese students receiving master scholarships in Belgium now have completed the study program. The minister asked the Belgium Government to extend the project because the period 2015 – 2019 is coming to an end.
Mr. Paul Jansen said that, Belgium Government is looking forward to the next steps of the European University of Management project in Vietnam, which builds educational programs in Vietnam, together with European Union.
This is a project highly promoted by EU and Kingdom of Belgium for the cooperation between EU and Belgium – Vietnam in the near future.
Meanwhile, the ambassador asked MoET to support the projects of French-speaking community and the Wallonie-Bruxell region. One of them is the preschool education development project in Quang Nam.
Minister Phung Xuan Nha highly appreciated the support to the education project in Quang Nam and MoET’s professional agencies will have the necessary supports, especially the regional workshop of the project.
For the project of building the European University of Management in Vietnam, the Minister said that MoET is very interested in promoting the project and has worked with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to work on the project to accelerate the project progress. The Minister hoped that during his term, Mr. Paul Jansen would make efforts to promote the project, contributing to the establishment of the European Management University in Vietnam.
[Hanoi] Belgian cuisine appeared in the 2018 International Food Festival
The 2018 International Food Festival took place on 09 Dec 2018 at Van Phuc Diplomatic Compound, 298 Kim Ma, Hanoi, attracting a large number of visitors. This is an annual cultural – charity fund-raising event hosted by Service Department for Diplomatic Corps, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

With more than 130 booths of foreign embassies in Hanoi, NGOs, provincial departments of foreign affairs, local businesses, visitors had chance to enjoy signature dishes from countries all over the world and from all regions of Vietnam. Apart from the cuisine, there were spectacular cultural performances of many countries, Vietnam included.
Training on Human Rights in the Context of Good Corporate Governance for State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in Vietnam
On December 5th 2018, the Embassy of Belgium, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden, the Central Institute for Economic Management, and UNDP, has organized an Introductory training on Human Rights in the Context of Good Corporate Governance for Vietnamese SOEs.
The training stressed the importance of Vietnamese SOEs leading by example as role models for all businesses in respecting human rights in their business practice, including: children’s rights, labor standards, and gender equality. The facilitators have also presented the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, with examples and discussions to strengthen participants’ understanding of the training.
