Baba’s Kitchen – Tastes of India to Vietnam

On September 2, 2011, Baba’s Kitchen opened its first restaurant on Bui Vien Street in Pham Ngu Lao. With a packed grand opening, Babas changed how customers viewed Indian food in Saigon. It would also set the standard for Customer Service very few competitors can equal even to this day.

The success of Baba’s kitchen

The person responsible for this is Robin Babu, the owner of Baba’s Kitchen. Robin was born and raised in Kerala, located in the southwest region of India. He decided to move to Vietnam to help his relative open one of the first Indian restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. After several years, he had opened several more restaurants in both Vietnam and Cambodia. Then, with his experience in the Vietnamese market and the support of his friend, Frank Vossen, Robin decided to open Baba’s Kitchen.

There are many key ingredients in making an Indian restaurant successful. Robin knew them all. He brought the familiar tastes and flavours of India, to Vietnam. This included flying Indian chefs and cooks to Ho Chi Minh City from India. He located the ingredients and spices needed for each authentic dish. Finally, Robin made sure to offer all the dishes customers, including Indians, liked. He even had an Expatriate friend to bring 20 kilos of spices and tea from New Delhi to Vietnam via Kazakhstan!

Customer Service

The most important key ingredient to the success of Baba’s Kitchen is customer service. Robin, and his staff works hard to make sure you, his customers, get the best cuisine India can offer. This is why he, and his staff at Baba’s Kitchen, prides themselves on customer service.

If there is ever a problem with your order, be assured, Baba’s Kitchen will do everything possible to make you happy.

Baba’s kitchen support during Covid-19 time

During the Covid – Lockdown, Baba’s provided totally over 150,000 free meals to hospital staff and patients who otherwise could not buy their meals from the food vendors that were closed.

This included about 550 meals daily for the staff and patients of Saigon Children hospital nr-1 and nr-2. The kids particularly enjoyed the weekly pizza treat, to the point they are still requesting this today. And we are trying to oblige at least once a month.

Over 2000 food relief packages were also delivered, containing 5kg of rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, soy sauce, sardines, and milk to families with kids.

The Baba’s team of 17 people and a few volunteers contributed their time 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, in addition to over 3B Vietnam dong invested to fund the meals and food.
